mikesh
An athlete documentary exploring the comeback nobody sees.
ATHLETE DOCUMENTARY 2026
WATCH THE FILM
A short documentary following Jen Mikesh through the rehab, the rebuilding, and the daily work that carried her from shoulder surgery back to the CrossFit Games.
the story
Most people only see the competition floor.
They see the events, the scores, and the moments when everything comes together.
They rarely see what happens before.
Mikesh follows Jen through the season where no tickets are punched and no crowds are watching — the months after a shoulder surgery that was supposed to take a year to come back from. She was back in nine months.
This film explores the work that defines an athlete long before the world sees the result.
the athlete
Jen Mikesh is a Masters CrossFit athlete, coach, and co-owner of Boulder Mountain CrossFit in Hailey, Idaho. She picked up her first barbell at 38, and has spent the years since proving how much room there is to grow.
Mikesh focuses on the discipline behind the comeback — the rehab done daily, the weaknesses trained on purpose, and the decision to keep going when stopping would have been easier.
the Approach
-
The goal was not to create a highlight reel. It was to create an intimate portrait of the athlete behind the performance.
-
The film is carried entirely by Jen's own voice — no narration, no script — with intentional pacing that reflects the patience a comeback requires.
-
Shot in Hailey, Idaho with a minimal solo production, allowing the focus to remain on Jen's training and the gym where she coaches and works.
