Some photo sessions start with an occasion.
This one started with a gift.
Carsn surprised Natalie with a winter photo session for Christmas, and Baker Creek in the Sawtooth National Forest couldn’t have been a better setting. Snow-covered trails, quiet forest air, and just enough cold to keep everyone moving and laughing.
From the start, the goal wasn’t stiff posing or anything overly planned. This session was about having fun, staying in motion, and letting moments unfold naturally.
A Fun, Documentary-Style Winter Session
Instead of traditional poses, we approached this session in a documentary style. Carsn and Natalie were encouraged to walk, talk, joke around, and just be themselves while I stayed observant behind the camera.

That approach takes the pressure off — especially when one person is surprised with a session as a gift. As they warmed up, the nerves faded quickly, and the real moments showed up: inside jokes, natural laughter, and small gestures that can’t be forced.
Playful Movement in the Snow

Winter sessions don’t mean standing still. Carsn and Natalie moved through the trails at Baker Creek, stopping when something caught their attention and then continuing on. That movement kept the energy light and playful and gave the photos a natural, cinematic feel.
Snow has a way of simplifying a scene — soft light, muted colors, and fewer distractions. It made the connection between them the clear focus of every frame.
Quiet, Intimate Moments
Carsn and Natalie sharing a quiet moment together, savoring the warmth of their connection and the deep love they have for each other.
Not every moment was loud or playful — and that balance is what made the session feel complete. Some of the strongest images came when everything slowed down.
Standing close.
Breathing.
Saying nothing.
Those quiet moments added depth and contrast, creating photos that feel grounded and honest.
Cinematic Photo + Video Coverage
Alongside photography, we also captured cinematic video in a documentary style. No scripted lines, no interviews — just natural sound, real reactions, and moments that feel like memories rather than performances.
This approach works especially well for sessions like this. A Christmas gift turns into something tangible — photos and film that don’t just show what it looked like, but what it felt like.
